Pointing in Cement to all granite.

The Specification and the Bill of Quantities provided for the granite to be bedded and joined in lime mortar

and to be pointed in lime.

In execution, the granite was bedded in cement with

an edging-about 1" wide-of lime putty; and on completion the joints were raked out and pointed in

cement.

This method involved extra labour in setting the granite and the extra cost of cement over lime

for the pointing.

The quantity amounts to 117,000 feel super; for which the Contractors' claim is fair and reasonable.

About three quarters of the total length of the Pediment to West Elevation was built up temporari- -ly in brickwork and rendered in lime mortar. No price was agreed upon at the time, nor were

measurements taken.

Nothing has been tas allowed for this in the

final account.

The Value of work ascertained from measure- -ments of the granite pediment is $450.
